Club history and information

“Amager Dykkerklub” (Amager [Scuba] Diving Club) was founded in 1980 with main focus on scuba diving. But in the beginning of the eighties the members of the club began practising underwater rugby. Over time underwater rugby became the main activity, and meanwhile this trend spread out through northern Europe.

Today there’s no longer any scuba diving activity in the club and thus the club has changed name to “Amager Undervandsrugbyklub” (Amager Underwaterrugby Club).

Throughout the period 2000 to 2006 most of the founding members and ‘oldschool’ members quit practising the sport and a lot of younger and newer players joined. Today Amager Undervandsrugbyklub has three active teams playing in the Danish league. One elite team competing for the Danish Championship (could be called the premier league), one in the so called first division (the second league) and the last in second division (the third league).

There are around 44 members in Amager Undervandsrugby Klub today, of which about 8 are inactive for any number of reasons. This doesn’t mean that there are 44 players at every practice, but we strive to rally around 20 players at each practice.

Each season we have a number of social activities in the form of parties and dinners. Typically, there’s a party around Christmas, one around Easter and one just before summer break!
